Special Autodesk Presentation Stream Announced!

Autodesk - Stingray

Autodesk have announced a new special Autodesk presentation stream showcasing their latest tools.  Times will be released with the schedule.

Maya & 3DS Max new features in 2016
This year sees one of the biggest software updates for 3DS Max and Maya, David Zwierzchaczewski ( 3D specialist for media and entertainment at Autodesk) will take you through some of his favourite new features. This session goes for one and a half hours and there will be a Q&A session at the end.

Stingray. The new kid on the block
Autodesks Game engine stingray has hit the street and it is exciting. Join David Zwierzchaczewski as he walks you through what this game engine is capable of. This is a 1 hour session

The games industry, how did I end up here?
Before joining Autodesk David Zwierzchaczewski spent 16 years working in the Film, TV and games industries. Join him as he talks and share tips about working in the media and entertainment industry. He will also be sharing information about the state of this industry and where he sees it trending. This will be followed by a Q&A session. This session will go for 1 hour.

NZGDC15 Emergent Game Stories Workshop

Stories that Emerge out of Games:
For students, indies and pro game devs.

DESCRIPTION
A story need not be ‘told’ in a game. With some cunning narrative design, a story can ’emerge’ from the joyful meeting of World and Gameplay, like a baby alien emerging out of John Hurt’s chest. In this 3-hour workshop. Narrative Designer and Game Writer, Edwin McRae, will show you how emergent narratives can be built into your game.

NZGDC15 Game Design Workshop

1:30pm – 5:00pm
This is a practical and hands on workshop run by Carl de Visser (Grinding Gear Games) and Matt Gatland (Pop-Up Arcade) specially designed to benefit all skill ranges from never ever designed before to expert veteran.  Methods for game design will be explored through making games with analog (cards, counters, dice etc) components. All equipment will be supplied.

NZGDC15 Legal, Accounting and Business Workshop

Taking your game to the next level – Legal, Accounting and Business Issues:

Conceiving, designing, launching and commercialising a game is an exciting but daunting project. Can you use that game asset? Does someone already own the rights to the name? Do I need a licence to use third party content? How do I license the game? Should I set up a company to market and license the game? How do I maximise profits and reduce tax? Do I have to be GST registered? This interactive workshop, given by leading IP, media and technology lawyers and business advisors from Hudson Gavin Martin and PwC, will be run as part presentation, part worked example, and will tackle these issues and many more. Come armed with questions!

NZGDC15 Business Of Games Workshop

Do you help run or own a games business? One of the best ways to find answers is to ask your peers: senior managers and founders of other successful New Zealand games businesses facing similar challenges.

This flexible workshop is a chance to share business problems, find ways to work together and explore government support for established game studios. Businesses young and old are welcome.

The agenda includes:
– Business trends in the Games industry
– NZGDA’s Strategic Plan
– My favourite microtransaction – Share your experience with recent launches and campaigns
– Common plans and needs – Where can NZ studios work together, including plans for GDC 2016
– Government support – Representatives from NZTE and Callaghan Innovation will answer your questions on how and when they can assist

DESCRIPTION
Unity is a cross-platform game engine used to develop video games for PC, consoles, mobile devices and the web. In this introductory workshop we will be looking at some basic Unity concepts and taking a tour of the interface. Finally we’ll develop and deploy a Unity application together.

PRESENTER
Rus Scammell, Unity Product Evangelist, has been making games for more than 10 years. He owns Craft Colony, a game production & consulting company. Rus is a games technology generalist and takes a holistic approach to game development. He has been developing in Unity since 2009. Previously, he was Technical Art Director at Big Bad Robots and Senior 3D Artist at GameBrains. He lives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
