We would like to tell you about some important changes taking place here at the New Zealand Game Developers Association (NZGDA).
From 1st June 2022 we will move to a paid membership structure.
As a Not-For-Profit advocacy organisation, we have made it our mission to deliver above and beyond what would be expected; from our advocacy and lobbying efforts to the successful delivery of an annual national conference, business startup competitions, mentorship programmes, community content curation and creation, among other initiatives over the last decade.
This is due, in no small part, to the commitment and passion of the industry volunteers who have served on our board, volunteered at our events, giving so generously of their time and expertise.
In consultation with our members last year however, it was agreed that the industry has now grown to a point where it needs more consistent and resourced support from its trade association, beyond that which our board members can provide as volunteers.
And so our constitution changes were agreed at our 2021 AGM.
We have worked behind the scenes – consulting with other industry organisations and our industry leaders – to create a membership structure that will provide the greatest value for our membership and support all who participate professionally in the game development industry in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Membership fees will fund one staff member to begin with, a vital resource that can deliver new initiatives and projects to support our goals for the industry.
We will be transitioning to this model over the next 12 months, from 1st June.
Thanks to the financial support from some of our most successful businesses and partner organisations, scholarships will be available to ensure upcoming industry voices are heard. Much of our website, social media content and events will remain accessible to all, but member-only content and events may emerge and a new member area of the website is under construction.
Eventually new structures for engaging and consulting will be created, so that NZGDA can continue to be the voice of – and advocate on behalf of – the New Zealand game development industry as it evolves.
You can read more on our Membership FAQs here.
As we await the rollout of our new membership platform, where you can apply for membership, in the meantime you can contact info@nzgda.com if you wish to join us.
Thank you for your continued support of the NZGDA.
