Puzzle Planets puts the awesome power of nature on your iPhone and iPad

WASHINGTON – April 6, 2011 – National Geographic Channel in partnership with Runaway are proud to announce the release of Puzzle Planets for iPhone and iPad, a new game that puts the powerful forces of nature at your fingertips.

With a core concept inspired by the popular National Geographic Channel (NGC) series Clash of the Continents, Puzzle Planets puts an action packed spin on the earth sciences. Players create planets by constructing a tectonic core, raising continents from the ocean, and spreading life over the land.

“We hope the factual component of Puzzle Planets will spark a curiosity within the player which they can act on by watching the channel or opening our website” says Leslee Razgaitis, Producer on the game for NGC. “Likewise our broadcast viewers can turn to the game to continue their journey of discovery in an interactive format.” The game will receive on-air promotion alongside shows with which it shares a factual base.

Tim Nixon leads the game’s developer Runaway as they aim to corner the factual gaming niche on social and mobile platforms. “We believe there’s a huge market opportunity in factual gaming which isn’t currently catered for” says Nixon. “Being able to relax with a game but still have a meaningful, substantial experience by learning something is widely compelling.”

The Universal App is available now on the App Store for $0.99 USD, featuring 15 planets, 45 creature evolutions, and Facebook friend leaderboards.
