AMPLIFY: Creative and Cultural Strategy for New Zealand
18 November 2024

AMPLIFY is a framework developed by the Ministry of Culture and Heritage to strengthen Aotearoa’s creative and cultural sectors. It aims to create a thriving, sustainable creative ecosystem that contributes to economic growth, community wellbeing, and New Zealand’s unique cultural identity.

The strategy focuses on five core themes:

1. Creativity Everywhere – Making creative opportunities accessible to all.

2. Sustainable Creativity – Supporting careers, businesses, and sector resilience.

3. A Thriving Mātauranga Māori Ecosystem – Centering te ao Māori in the creative landscape.

4. Global Creative Connections – Boosting international collaboration and market reach.

5. Creative and Cultural Value – Highlighting the social and economic impact of creativity.

While game development is recognised as part of the creative economy, the strategy lacks a specific plan for the sector. This omission is significant given the industry’s rapid growth, global success, and its contribution to jobs and innovation. Having a dedicated strategy for game development is crucial to ensuring the sector’s needs are addressed and its potential maximised.

The voice of the game development community needs to be heard. We strongly encourage anyone with an interest in the sector to make a submission and provide their feedback. Visit the Ministry’s website to learn more and submit your thoughts to help shape this important framework.
